The spring equinox is a Japanese national holiday called Shunbun-no-hi.

Sweet Rice Balls
Seven days around the spring and autumnal equinoxes (including three days before and after the equinoxes) are Buddhist events called higan. Many Japanese people visit their family graves and pray for the souls of their ancestors. Ohagi (botamochi) sweet rice balls are commonly eaten during higan.

Yakisoba with Ankake Sauce
