Woke up this morning and looked out the windows to whiteness -- a thick fog. But the weather people said it was just Florence, so we and some cousins drove to Viareggio, on the coast, and it was beautiful. Calm seas, the soft warm yellow winter sun, and immense beaches with hardly anyone on them. A wonderful time, and once the dog got used to the feeling of sand between his toes he enjoyed it too.
