From Tom Nelson, your Guide to Macs
It doesn't look much like Christmas here in New England. The trees are bare, and so is the ground. We've had a couple of dustings of snow, but nothing lasting (not that we're complaining). But even without snow, we're looking forward to spending the holidays with family, friends, and pets.

For many of us, this is a time of great anticipation, wondering what surprises await us in colorful, ribbon-adorned boxes. If you find new Mac gear or an interesting gadget under your tree, and you want to show it off, we have a way for you to do it. You can post photos and details in the Show Us Your New Gear section of About: Macs.

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!

Moving Time Machine to a New Hard Drive
When Time Machine runs out of room, it may be time to think about a larger hard drive to store your Time Machine backups. Adding or replacing your current Time Machine hard drive is simple enough, but what if you want to move your current Time Machine backup to the new drive?

I've also devised methods to fix common disconnect issues.

For me, the major cause of the Magic Mouse dropping the Bluetooth connection can be traced to the Magic Mouse's battery compartment... Read more

Enlarging the Mouse Pointer
With both larger and high-resolution displays becoming the norm, you may have noticed your mouse pointer is getting smaller. On both the newer 27-inch iMacs and the new 27-inch LCD Cinema Display, the monitor's native resolution is high enough that your mouse cursor can be difficult to locate as it scurries across the screen. There is, however, a way to make the mouse pointer larger, so it's easier to spot... Read more

Buying an External Hard Drive
External hard drives are a popular choice for bulking up a Mac's storage capacity. Externals can be used for many purposes, including data backups, storing large files (such as your iTunes library), or storing the thousands of family photos you've accumulated over the years.

External hard drives come in two basic styles: an empty case, and a case that includes a pre-installed hard drive. The pre-installed version is the most popular, but you could save a bit of cash if you're willing to build your own external using an empty case... Read more
