Christmas is Coming... And so are the markets; in small towns they tend to be just on the weekends, but in major cities they continue for several weeks. And can be lots of fun; when I was much younger I remember going to Piazza Navona in Rome, where people were selling creche figureens. Florence's Piazza Santa Croce has instead been taken over by Germans and other north Europeans, who are selling both Christmas things and street food (lots of wurst with sauerkraut, beer and soft pretzels) and doing very well for themselves. It's a nice change of pace.
