Check back later today for a look at Apple's announcements. | | Apple Q4 Results: $20.34 Billion in Revenue Apple continues to be on a roll, with Q4 results that are, at least so far, the best quarter yet for the denizens of the Cupertino Campus. Revenue for the quarter came in at $20.34 billion, with a net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion. During the fiscal 4th quarter, Apple shipped 14.1 million iPhones, a 91 percent uptick in sales over the previous year. iPad sales reached 4.2 million, and the Mac had sales of 3.9 million, up 27 percent year-over-year... Read more | A Lion Is Coming to Your Mac; OS X 10.7, That Is Apple sent out press invitations last Wednesday, announcing a "Back to the Mac" event for October 20th. The invite included the usual Apple logo, but this time, the logo had a lion peeking out from behind it. Now, don't expect Lion (OS X 10.7) to be released at this gathering. Apple tends to show a preview of an upcoming major OS X release well ahead of its actual release. Chances are Lion won't be heading out of its corporate den until late summer 2011. Apple supplies a handy application for working with hard drives called Disk Utility. If you open up Disk Utility, you'll notice that it doesn't include a tool for defragmenting your hard drive. The reason for this perceived oversight is that a Mac running any version of OS X later than 10.2 doesn't need to be defragmented.
