From Carly Wickell, your Guide to Jewelry
Take a look back at some of the celebrity jewelry trends we've seen during the first half of 2010. Are the same styles available in retail stores? Will they be soon?

Jewelry Watching at Cannes

The Festival de Cannes is an annual gathering in France where films of all types are screened during an almost 2-week period. Cannes is an invitation-only event for members of the film industry, and is always a good place for celebrity jewelry watching. Jewelry at the festival is a mix of casual to high-end and often reveals current and future trends.

Met Gala Jewelry

This year, the annual benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute brought out the usual mix of celebrities wearing the usual mix of jewelry styles. Bold necklaces were on lots of necks, but no single style dominated the mix. Mariska Hargitay wore a design covered with colorful beetle scarabs. Emmy Rossum chose a boldy colored tribal-like necklace and Katy Perry's pink lightning bolts sparkled above the glow from her strapless, light-up gown.

A couple of my favorite earrings from the Gala were Kate Hudson's diamond and morganite pendants (by Fred Leighton) and Bee Shaffer's long charm-filled ovals.

How Different Was the Country Red Carpet?
Styles were truly a mix at the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada, where diamonds and platinum weren't the only jewelry components making their way across the red carpet. Carrie Uderwood won the Academy's Entertainer of the Year award, for the second time. She wore a pendant on a long chain and topped it with a shorter necklace.

At the Oscars
Sandra BullockMost celebrities stuck to the usual fare of white diamonds and platinum for their Oscars jewelry, but onyx, colored diamonds, sapphires and emeralds made an appearance, too. The yellow gold that's been popular at other recent red carpet events was mostly absent at the Academy Awards.

Kate Winslet's platinum and yellow diamond pendant and bracelets, from Tiffany & Co., were among the colorful diamonds on the Oscars' red carpet, and Helen Mirren's classic Chopard necklace was most definitely a (125-carat) diamond stunner. Penelope Cruz wore Chopard, too, and her drop earrings were a favorite. Anna Kendrick's look was perfect, from her blush pink gown to her delicate diamond cuff bracelet and "matching" clutch.

Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock wore diamond and platinum bracelets (by Neil Lane) from her personal collection.
