 | After recovering from a long drive to wet Tuscany from Portugal, we got back in the car a few days ago for an overnight trip where we witnessed some medieval flag throwing in advance of the running of the oldest palio in the world, which is held (surprise!) in Ferrara, Italy. And we're doing this all on the cheap. The Euro only costs 1.24 as I write this, down from 1.62 a while back. | |

| A Virtual Tour of Sauveterre de Bearn in Southwestern France
Sauveterre de Bearn was an outpost on the pilgrimage trail from southwest France to Santiago de Compostella in Spain. It guarded Navarre and Gascony from invaders. Today, Sauveterre de Bearn is a pleasant medieval village worth a day trip or short stop, if only to look across at the village from the awesomely cute "Bridge of Legend" which is burdened with a very sad tale.
